2012?

The year, that is.

What do you think; Apocalypse or no apocalypse?

I'm leaning toward the latter.

I kind of hate this 2012 bullshit.
Contrary to popular belief, the Mayans who made the goddamn calendar never, at any point, even suggested that the end of the current cycle would mark the end of the world. If they didn't believe an apocalypse would occur in 2012, why should we?

Who knows? They claimed that there would be a major world event - they didn't say what the event could be. I believe that history repeats itself in cycles and every now and then a major event occurs that brings about change. To a degree I think that something big might happen again in the not so distant future.

The Mayan prediction is as good a prediction as any...

I seriously doubt it. Besides, how many times before have we all heard about someone being wrong about the apocalypse? Besides, on this I'm totally down with gothicusmaximus.

Oh dear. I got really curious now and came across this site:

http://www.greatdreams.com/2012.htm

Now I can't stop humming REM's 'It's the end of the world as we know it...'

*And I really do feel fine *

We were talking about this just the other night! We decided that the Mayans may have been right, but only to a certain degree. There very well may be a disaster that happens in 2012 that could be world ending, but where was the Mayan world? Yep, Central/South America, that's where. If anything apocalyptic happens I bet it happens there.

Could happen, just look at all the hurricanes and tropical storms that have been hammering that part of the world for the last few years, this year included! Alot of the ones that formed headed right for there, causing more damage each time. My bet's on a natural disaster in 2012, but only there in the countries below us. Guess we will have to see!!

2012 is when London hosts the Olympics, and given the way construction of the Olympic site is going at the moment, I rather suspect it'll be an utter catastrophe.
Maybe the Mayans envisaged a vast gathering of the fastest and strongest from all over the world, all getting together and... being rendered useless after injuring themselves on unsafe sporting equipment?

If you think the world is going to end in 2012, I have some real estate I want to sell you. Wait, no. I guess you wouldn't want it. Tell you what. I will buy any that you own for one cent on the dollar.

Drake Dun - Now that you mention it - that reminds me of all the hype about the new millennium and some people claiming that the world would come to an end. There was this particular pastor around here somewhere in SA that preached to his congregation that they should sell all their earthly belongings and gather at the church at the appropriate hour to await the second coming of Christ.

Apparently quite a number took his advice. Shame. I'm sure it was the end of the world for them when they realized that Jesus didn't come for them afterall.

The Mayans didn't predict the world would end, their calendar just stopped there. Did you expect their calendar to just go on forever?

Well, the Chinese predicted doom at December 2012, and so did Nostradamus, the Mayan calender ends during December 2012, so if the world doesn't end 2012 it never will, or at least not for a long time.

I lol'd and agreed

I'm not too botherd about it TBH, the whole world coming to an end thing.
You may say you would regret not doing somthing before you die but if you think about it once your dead what does it matter what you done with your life?
And if we all died together ...oh well who cares? Once you're dead you're dead, your life before then wont mean a thing.
If you dont understand or get what im talking about......keep thinking about it.

I don't think that the world will end anytime soon... or at least I hope not. 2012 is too soon. I'm a believer in fate and destiny and things like that so I suppose if its meant to happen then it will. There's no point in getting all caught up with it right now, let destiny unravel on its own. We will only find out if this is true or not in another 5 years.

I'm not seeing the signs mentioned in the Bible. Then again, we're not supposed to know when the Apocalypse is.

That would be possible for the Chinese and Nostradamus, but the Mayans made their calender long before they encountered anyone from the other side of the world. Hell of a coincidence.

A Ouijia board told me I'd die in 2012, and that was before I heard about any of the mainstream 2012 stuff. Oooh, spooky.

I remember I was talking to this alien who was in the guise young woman. From there she used some kind of mind-control device on me and forced me into the Holiday Inn Paramus, where she proceeded to reveal to me that the date for the end of the world would February 14, 2016.

Valentine's Day. Bummer.
