Aerosmith looking to replace Steven Tyler

Steven Tyler quits Aerosmith; Joe Perry says band looking for first new lead singer in 40 years.

Who Should Replace Steven Tyler as Aerosmith's Front Man?
Joe Perry Tweets About Aerosmith's Search to Replace Steven Tyler

Nov. 10, 2009

Who has what it takes to front one of the most iconic rock bands of the '80s and '90s?

Steven Tyler's walking far away from Aerosmith, the group he co-founded in 1969. Aerosmith guitar guru Joe Perry announced the news via Twitter Monday, turning a 40-year-long friendship into a public feud. And though the 59-year-old Perry could easily retire, he refuses to let the band break up.

"Aerosmith is positively looking for a new singer to work with. You just can't take 40 years of experience and throw it in the bin!" Perry tweeted Monday. "Band is playing hotter than ever and our songs need to be played live! Don't despair; Aerosmith not splitting up. Promise that's the last you'll hear from me on the subject till we gear up again."

Ben's comment - The original article asks for reader's input on who should relace Steven Tyler or if the band should go on. I like one comment I read: "They should hang it up. There is only one Steve Tyler and he is AEROSMITH. With a new singer they would be AEROMYTH!"

If Tyler is choosing to "Walk This Way" then the band should recognize that no one else has "What It Takes" to hold his microphone. Sometimes, you just shouldn't try to get "Back In The Saddle" any more.

It would be better if they just replaced the whole band.

I give a fuck about Aerosmith. I just loaded some of their tunes into my MP3 player the other day.

Fair enough. In that case, this thread should hold no further interest to you.

I, on the other hand, am disappointed knowing that the possibility of ever hearing any further new music by Aerosmith as I know them is very unlikely.

I think it sucks too. When I hear "Aerosmith" I instantaneously get a picture in my head of Steven Tyler with his huge mouth wide open belting something out with a mic and scarf dangling off the stand. If the band doesn't want to break up, FINE. But they should change their name or something. Tyler is totally epic. The band will not be the same with out him.

Anyone replacing him would be like Paul Rodgers, or ... this wouldn't happen, but Rivers Cuomo taking over lead vocals for Boston.

Oh, my humor is horrendous this evening.
