Kids, do not do this at home...

Well, DIY- ing can be hazardous, most of us probably know this by now. So I thought, to spare others of the same trouble you've ran into, let's share our fatal errors or lessons learned the hard way. By the way, if this has been done before, I'm sorry. I'll start:

- Never ever put a T- shirt you just painted into the oven in high temperatures with the paper still inside the shirt. It will smoke, it will burn and your work is ruined (and any neighbours and firemen will probably point and laugh after the initial shock of the fire alarm going off has settled down).

- Do not let any projects involving sharp objects (needles, spikes etc) lie around on the floor (especially if there are many other objects there already). No matter how much you remember it being there right now, you will forget when the door bell/ telephone rings.

- Small objects will be lost at the worst possible time and be found in either a painful way or at the wrong time.

- Needles are, by nature, vicious beings that enjoy playing tricks on you by getting lost and sticking in your feet or similar.

- When attempting to make a parasol, do not ever throw the pattern away.

- Double check at least three times before cutting anything.

Did you by chance have bad experiences from these incidents yourself?

The fact that you have to tell people these things makes me sad for society.

I've lost count of the times I've trodden on a needle in bare feet, ALWAYS in the heel too for some reason

Make sure you're in a room where your CAT is not!!! Otherwise she/he will attempt to attack every bit of fabric and thread you have whilst you try to sew. LOL. Plus I worry about kitty trying to get after the needles & pins and hurting herself.

Yes I found that trying to paint or do things with fabric have not been wise when my cat is sitting there watching me with great intensity.

Oh and make sure you tell your brother what you're doing before you just lets the dog into your room and they trod all over everything.

I normally fall foul of my short attention span. Whilst making a skirt, I normally realise only when I've finished sewing a really long seam by hand (no machine, no money, no skill) that I've got the fabric the wrong way round.

I think everyone messes up with pins on the floor at some point, but I never seem to learn...

Does that make it six times?

...and you said that keeping the pins off the floor was the hard part.

Before you even dare to think about touching your hot glue gun, make sure it has been off and cooled down for at least, half an hour.
Glue guns are vicious objects that always like to burn exposed skin. >_<

Ouch...!

Another thing I've just noticed is that whenever you really do need to get some sewing done quick and right now, every single sewing machine in the house will refuse to co- operate and of course all the manuals will be lost. (Never let anyone tinker with your sewing machine.)

Heres another tip.

Do NOT wear jeans you just bleached without washing them first unless you want irritation and groin burns. If you are worried about the colors mixing with your laundry then do what I did and wear them in the shower to clean them off which is fun.

Another tip I forgot.

If using a paintbrush to paint on a shirt, don't let the fabric paint dry on the brush because it'll be a bitch and a half to get off. Wash it really good right after you're done.

Haha, yeah I've done that, but then I didn't use them again for a month. I still haven't finished getting the paint off...
