Or, and here's a tip, you could just GO ABOUT BUSINESS AS USUAL. Should this specific teacher question what is playing on your iPod, switch it to a Tiny Tim song and let him listen to it. If he's old enough, he should enjoy it and you will be praised at the next school assembly. They might even name a school holiday after you.
Good luck, and godspeed.

I've had a few teachers similar to this. There were students that used Solumina's approach, I think, but these teachers were the kind of people that thought simply being a teacher entitled them to do anything they wanted.. they would scream at you that you had "challenged their authority".

I'm homeschooled now. ^______^

Fill your ipod with Gorgoroth and Gothërfall and listen to music right in front of him. Give him a fun shock next time he asks to listen to the music you're listening to.

some pain in the arse teachers only have an eye for cristism. Nazi cynics. Shouldn't he be glad that the student is reading Baudelaire and praise her for it?

anyways, so I was curious and read some Gotherfall lyrics. Probably the most well written lyrics I've come across ever, but yes, their sound is quite shock-horror.

Rename Voltaire in Itunes as "François-Marie Arouet."
Don't let them censor you!
And look on the bright side, at least it wasn't Zombie Prostitute!

Not bad JCC =)
I'd ignore him unless he ask you to give the player , then gracefully send him to hell . It seems to me this is personal . His problem migh be with you , not with the music , and he is only looking for cheap excuses to get you in troubles .
You can also ask him whats so bad about Voltaire to identify where really the problem is . try to look as if you were deeply interested and fool him for a while.

I believe in letting authority believe it's in control, personally. If he asks your Ipod, let him... Then write a senator. (this works better in the military, but from my first two years in, I found that The Military and Highschool are very, Very similar in structure)

A new update in the tragic saga that is my life!
That same asshole teacher "caught" me listening to The Dresden Dolls - Sex Changes. I saw him coming, so I turned my iPod off and pulled out a book. I think he saw me do it though, because he just picked it up from the bench and started walking away with it. He turned it on and put the headphones in. Only, because I turned it off during a song it automatically restarted that song. I went after him and told him to give it back, but he just said "I already told you, if you listen to offensive music, your media player will be confiscated." So then I went to see the principle, and he agreed that he shouldn't have taken it. At the end of the day I went back to the principal and he gave me back my iPod, but it had a large noticeable scratch on it that definetely wasn't there before. I complained about this, but he just said there was nothing he could do. Anyway, uh, rant over.

When it comes to deal with such narrow-minded people, I take the advice of a really good friend. As yor only job here is to smile and nod, while planning for a homecide in yor head.

When teachers turn into nazis, there is no better way than doing what they want while making them sense that we're not okay with what they are doing/saying. Later try to prove or point, usually with a note bloated with too many thoughts, and facts they cannot deny or disagree with in any way. That's how you make them ashamed of not rememebering to think before they act, while they should be or role models.

For me, I do whatever my teacher wants just so not to hear her scream at me, as her voice causes me an instant headache.
I don't have no time to argue with people who do things aiming to nothing.

That's messed up. In your position I would have just stolen it back. I mean what he did technically was taking without owner's consent.

Maybe you should stop listening to music at school and focus on your studies.

Come on, now, Son, you know as well as I do that nothing in school ever matters after graduation...

Most probably true, but in my opinion, nonetheless unjust.

If she's in an American public school, yes he is.

If she's in a place where it's not legal, then yeah, I'm wrong.

In American schools, teachers have the right to confiscate shit.

I'm in an English state school (I think that's the same as public school). And I don't think they have the right to confiscate my possessions. It's not as if iPods are banned.

When I was in school they'd confiscate your music no matter what it was.

School is not the place to be listening to music.

how the fuck is Voltaire offensive? Especially if the teacher isn't even being touched by the music? What kind of school is this?
