Elystan, the further along this etiquette question thread we get, the more it stinks of trollery. Or foolishness. Take your pick.

Are you fool or troll?

Better a witty fool than a foolish wit. ~ Shakespeare

I think he's Bexxle's soulmate.

No, it's not. You've contradicted yourself on several occasions. You've admitted to misstatements. You've lied by omission. And it's apparent at this point that you keep changing the story to keep the thread going when it should have been resolved by now.

Fool or troll?

Fool or troll?
I put it to you that the inconsistency you perceive is grounded in preconscious assumptions.

Unless you mean the bait and switch of 'girlfriend' and 'close friend with with benefits', which I argue is defensible on the grounds of brevity, and that any confusion arising therefrom owes to a one-dimensional view of interpersonal relationships on the part of the readers.

Clever quotations on the subject of fools are usually not that kind or noble.

“Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.” -- attributed to Abraham Lincoln

"A fool and his money are soon parted." -- Thomas Tusser

“A fool's brain digests philosophy into folly, science into superstition, and art into pedantry. Hence University education.” -- George Bernard Shaw

“The ultimate result of shielding men from the effects of folly, is to fill the world with fools.” -- Herbert Spencer

“Go on, get out. Last words are for fools who haven't said enough.” -- Karl Marx

BTW, what does that Shakespeare quote REALLY mean?

Oh, and for relevance to this thread and Elystan's posts ... “Never argue with a fool - people might not know the difference.”

Well "fool" was a profession back then, if that helps.

Nope. I knew that, still sounds like 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

Plus, she has a better quote on fools in her signature anyway.

A witty fool: A man employed as a court jester who sometimes comes out with something really clever

A foolish wit: A man of literary repute who makes really bad decisions

Context is everything.

I think it's the same kind of thing as telling people you're going to put them on ignore as opposed to simply ignoring them.

Something my dad told me his dad told him:

"Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig."

You can, however, teach a pig to do all sorts of fun stuff like playing fetch.

Humility is better than hubris. Call yourself a fool and speak wisely unlike some who call themselves wise and speak like fools.

You're not a retard, sweetie... just seems like you're having trouble choosing between Evil Girlfriend and Facebook Female Friend. I'd kick Evil Girlfriend to the curb and... hmm... ask out Facebook FF if you want. I just see a possible catfight coming if Evil GF is as bad as you make her sound.

Just my two copper.

For one more post. It was in regard to Wolfie's/Graus' comment, not his running commentary in this thread ... but yeah, you caught me. Whoohoo!

No, I am a retard.

It's not really as straightforward as "do I want the red one or the blue one?"

One of them is a girl I 'have', the other is a pipe dream.

It's really fucking annoying, because I'm so embarrassed about how much I spent on these tickets that I can't even bring myself to tell her that I bought them. So I may as well just accept that girls pretty much 'like' me, 'but only as a friend' and go with the hand I've been dealt, except..

I can't stomach the idea of living with her either, knowing what it's gonna do to me.

I'd explain further but if people find what I've delineated already to be that far outside their realm of experience that the only way they can deal with it is by assuming I'm making it up (which is pretty staggering IMO)...

Besides, it would be in bad taste.

Just fucking ask the girl to go with you. "Hey, I happen to have an extra ticket to this gig and I thought you may be interested" is not that hard to say, just man up and do it already.

He's not asking cause he wants an answer (he already got that one and every other viable answer at this point several times over.) He's just playing a game.
