In response to your query, one of the more exciting things to disrupt the usual business of my day to day affairs was a letter from the graduate school I will be attending informing me that contrary to what they had anticipated a few months earlier, funds had become available to award me a modest merit scholarship to help defray the considerable expense of tuition. This news, of course, was most welcome.

Incidentally, I do hope that you shall be able to find gainful employment soon to rectify your current situation.
