Revealing our names on the internet is never a good idea, not even if you trust those people.
I'd rather not know your name for your safety than you revealing it to me because you trust me and finding yourself cheated.

Knowing the first name of a person is rarely a safety issue. There are many people in the world with your first name, so why is it bad to know it?

I like the name carlos........ My 1st 2nd and last are all in different languages.
When translated to english my name means

My first name is Torbjřrn. I've only met a few english-speaking people who's even able to pronounce it correctly. I used to hate it and wanteda more latin-based or english name... but now I like it. It's a old norse viking name and transelates into "Thor's bear".

I go by the name Rico, and it means 'rich'.

True ^^ Purposefully pronouncing someone's name wrongly can also be an attemt to confuse and show power over that person. I've had people try this on me several times.

EDIT:
For me, I do not use my legal names in any parameter on-line. Even for work purposes, I use my alias. It is a legal issue for me due to my line of work and also a privacy/safey issue (for very much the same reason). Said practice is most likely overkill on a forum such as this...
... however I did disclose my first common name on a bellydance forum, and someone put two and two together and stalked me for a while at events and then, later, by phone.
