Yeah, but then without them, this forum would be boring.

One does not have to give up one's Goth membership card simply to get a good job. May I suggest Corporate Goth Style?

May I also ask the OP what kind of job he/she is looking for..?

Ugh. Such idiocy is becoming commonplace here.

*sighs*

Not to mention a lack of grammar, which adds insult to idiocy; a large block of grammarless text is an eyesore, even more so after it is actually read.

Maybe, fine posters, the unity in our stupid collective is in fact the uniting force or drive to get rid of 'goffik' idiots who pour out their affected, torpid, badly written drivel. It's more fitting that anything else in my opinion.

I love how people talk for hours about their chosen subcultures like they are somehow so very important. Grow the fuck up, and learn to be a decent human being first.

Sweetie, don't be so vain as to think that everytime someone disagrees with something you support, it's just because you support it.

Punctations mate! O_O
I didn't bother reading all of that. About one third into the post, my eyes started hurting.
But basically if you want a job or anything, you have to learn when to dress "dark" and when to dress "professionally".
I agree that it's fucked, but it's the way society works.

OP, your employer isn't going to allow you to come to work in sweats and a wife beater, either. It's not about eeevil discrimination, it's about dressing appropriately for the occasion. No one loves compromising, and there's nothing wrong with pushing the limits in a polite and mature way, but having to go corp goth is not the end of the world.

Get indignant about more hurtful and damaging anti-goth sentiment, like physical assaults, if you like; but remember that this is not a traditionally activist subculture. Not to sound like a cliché, but life is full of cruelty. Get over it and buy some velvet. Then don't wear it to work.

If you want a job you have to dress for the job and in general act how they PAY you to.
You are givin funds to be this way suck it up and be how ever the hell you want to be when your not at work....You are not being employed at that time so do as you please unless you have no desire to have employment.
Christ this was redundant......

To the original poster, it rather offends my intellect for you to compare the struggles of marginalized and mistreated minority groups to your trivial, insignificant and self-wrought style crisis. Please, do not reassert that you were not trying to compare the two. The mere fact that you invoked the history of race relations at all says otherwise.

As others have stated, the people who pay your wages for whatever mundane tasks you perform for a living have the full authority to dictate what they do and do not want you to wear in the workplace. They have this power by virtue of their ownership of the company, the contractual agreement you signed upon your hiring in which you agreed to their rules and regulations, and their control over the proverbial purse strings that dispense the funds that you use to buy your goth wears and hair gel. If you wish to express yourself at your job, do so in a way that falls within the boundaries of your employment contract. This isn't persecution, it's "You do what we tell you to, and we pay you money." Not your cup of tea? Then go seek employment in a Hot Topic store.
