They can be really uppity about what they accept as donations sometimes, they wouldn't take my (as of then) virgin-to-all-chemical-processes hair...all 13 glorious inches of it...I still have it laying around in a bag with vague aspirations of doing something strange/useful with it...though gods know what that'll be, or when that'll happen.

I am just starting to grow mine back out, after having the same short hairstyle for about 10 years. You should keep it! You have really pretty hair!
Kitsune~ Did they give you a reason why? I wanted to donate to to "Locks of Love" but I have naturally blonde hair, dyed black. Does that mean they won't even consider it?

They're generally wary of chemically treated hair, just because it doesn't last as long, wear as well, etc.
As for my hair, they told me it was too damaged, which I find reeeeally odd because I hadn't done -anything- to my hair at that point, and still, to this day, refuse to use a hairdryer or anything involving in a situation other than an emergency. I'd even gone through and taken out what few split ends were there. A few friend of mine have had problems like that with several of the salons in the area accepting donations, but others take the same hair that was just rejected. And, before anyone asks, we did check to make sure the salons we tried to take it to were participating. I figure there could be some little goth girl somplace who's sick and in need of thick dark blue/black hair. If I was sick thats what I would want!
