Martial Arts.

From a few posts I got the the impression that many people here practice them.
And since I'm a curious person, I opened this thred.
Ever tried practising them? which one and for how long?

I used to go to Tai Chi but that didn't last long at all, there was not enough students or interest to keep it going. When I go back to university I'm going to take up Aikido.

I enjoyed what I did get to do, as a martial art its good if you aren't particularly strong, it focuses more on yielding and manipulation of the opponent's force rather than meeting it with your own strength. I got interested in it after watching Tai Chi Master starring Jet Li The sad thing about it though is that its hard to find a teacher who actually wants to teach it to you as a martial art and isn't trying to sell it as something thats going to cure your arthritis. Also it apparently takes years to even reach a intermediate level.

I once tried Tae Kwon Do, I failed.

A seven year old, who had also just started, kicked the shit out of me.

Painful memories.

I don't think you even realize what you're saying. That's like calling a language 'shit'.

I'm a black belt in Taekwondo, but I fucked up my lower body while training and had to retire from any such strenuous physical activity for a quite a while. Even after two years of physical therapy, I'm not confident I could resume practicing a footwork-oriented art like that one, but I'm woefully out of shape and have no time anyway.

I do less Martial art as you mean, and more MMA and boxing. Then, I dance a Highland Fling or Swords- Scots military dances.

Does fairly successfully re-enacting moves from Street Fighter, King of Fighters and Samurai Shodown count?

I would however very much like to properly learn some martial arts, but around here we mostly have the McDonalds kiddy martial arts centers, where they teach you nothing at all
