Wasn't too big on the adaptation of Less than Zero.

Agreed. Someone told me it was written by a fourteen-year-old, and I'm really not surprised.

I didn't know there was a movie version of Less than Zero. How did they fuck it up (though I can see lots of ways that they might have)?

He was fifteen, which pisses me the fuck off, because I am the age that Paolini was at the age of writing the book and I could fucking DESTROY that book and go on to be ruler of the universe given the opportunity.

I love that book but I really liked the film as well.

One thing I find strange is that the film "Hannibal" is actually a lot better and a lot more believable than the book. Usually, that doesn't happen but in this instance the film totally trumped the book. Rumour has it that Thomas Harris tried to make the book as ridiculous as possible so they couldn't make a good film, he failed.

Thank you for reminding me. Have to go back and re-watch that one. Until then, I'm reserving judgment. However, you must admit most of the movies/TV programs related to the Tarzan series aren't that great. Thankfully, the Mars series has not been 'savaged' by the movie industry (at least I hope not).

Oh, and so as not to create a double-post (no offense GM). More movie losers, "The Illustrated Man" and "The Martian Chronicles." Not even close. Still iffy on "Fahrenheit 451."

Slaughterhouse 5. It was shittier than an overflowing sewage plant. In all certainty, it never did the book justice.

Twilight (I admit it, I loved the books)
Eragon
Watchmen (the movie was good, but the book was just so much better)
V for Vendetta
Any fairytale made into a Disney movie
Misery, the movie was better than the book which killed it stone dead.

They made that into a movie?!

Also someone told me yesterday that they did an adaptation of Animal Farm in which the ending was changed so that the animals realized that they'd rather be enslaved and eaten by the humans so they got the farmer to come back.

I don't recall that happening in Russian history.

This one tops the crown. How the fucking hell could they mess up the movie? Fatality!

Oh wait, there is another so-called "blockbuster" movie which totaly murdered the book:

Frankenstein, or the modern Prometheuse
(apologies for the spelling)

They effing changed the creature's and Frankenstein's nature...seriously, evil mad scientist and fucked up zombie-monster?

Luckely there was a Frankenstein movie made that followed up the story line pretty accurate, and my hopes are up for the remake coming soon...

Why the fuck has War of the Worlds not come up yet?

I fucking hate it that when planning ALL THREE FILMS based on the book, the idea suddenly came into whatever twat's head that "Hey!, we should set it in modern day America."

it was too angsty and 90s-ish, it really didn't have Bret's humor or style

We might as wall also add "Journey To The Center of the Earth", and "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea." (I'm sure Jules Verne is spinning by now).

Wuthering Heights, the most amazing novel I've read so far. I've tried to watch a few versions, and none of them cut it. I mean, Ralph Fiennes as Heathcliff?? Very few people could ever have played Heathcliff. It's such a shame.

Frankenstein!
The book's depiction of the monster is so different compared to the hollywood version of - huge nails and needles screwed out of his green human-like face.
Kids go trick or treating in their Frankenstein costumes/masks but they don't realize the blatant truth until they read Shelley's novel!

I meant the original feature, the 1931 film with Boris Karloff.

The 1931 film was directed by James Whale. Of course it was epic, especially with Boris Karloff as Frankenstein. The silent, black and white one wasn't that great; but nonetheless, the audience were captivated by the Monster man and its huge ass.

HAHA That was classic. I've only seen that 10 minute one and the James Whale '31 version... oh and "Young Frankenstein" which was quite fun... next on my list is the '57 Hammer film "Curse Of Frankenstein" with P Cushing and C Lee. They say Lee used to entertain the lighting crew and such singing opera while waiting around in his bandages.

I like when a film is different from the book. It allows the audience to get something new. All of Kubrick's adaptation were brilliant, and it should be noted that his Shining was way better than the book.

I think, 'watchmen' was a good movie, as long as you dont compare it with the book.
On the other hand 'I am legend' sucked all by itself. You could see the film going places that the producers obviously changed at the last minute.

Anyway...I didnt think 'the Hitchhiker's Guide..' was too fantastic. Allthough Sam Rockwell was good as usual.
