Goths having problems with their families

I dont think its me alone who in the wanting to be gothic encountered problems with their parents i wanted to kno how u people deal with the constant annoyance and pressure of limited buying of "goth stuff" and listnin to music u actually like

soo how do u deal with it dude cuz me and my mom was in the local goth shop and i bought a black band with the rings and a goth black ring with a star and chain on it and she say thats all for a gud while and she doe want me wearin collars which is what i originally went there to buy
this has to be goth discrimination by my parents

Remember that goth is a state of mind first and foremost. Unless your parents aren't letting you buy books by Bronte, Shelly, and Stoker, you're problem is something you should be able to wait out. Plus if the 'rents are oppressin', you can't be old enough to club yet! And there's no use having goth shit if you can't show it off (wearing it to school is so ghetto)

I think my mom always knew there was something with me. She wasnt surprised to see me start wearing a lot of black, blood red lipstick and a few matching accesories.
She did however think that the steriotypes were true. She started asking me if i worshipped the devil and such. Of course I told her no. After I explained to her that there is nothing bad going on she came to accept it a alot more. Now she buys me collars, wristbands and things like that. On my last birthday she sent me a spiked collar and said it reminded her of me lol. She dispised my taste in music, but I dont have it on when shes around so that works.
Some people will have trouble accepting the fact that their child isnt "normal", but thats their problem as far as I see it. They are the ones missing out on their kids life because of looks? Cmon.. some people need to grow up.

One thing me and my mom used to do was really fun. She is very religious and every once in a while I would go to church with her dressed as I usually am. I used to love it when the priest would stop talking when he saw me. I think he thought I was going to steal his soul lol

My mom really never cared what I did as long as I didn't hurt anyone... my dad used to say I looked horrid with "that white stuff all over my face" (er, actually, I'm just that pale and I skipped the blush, but I guess the dark lipstick I was wearing made it stand out to him or something). He never cared about what I wear as long as it didn't look slutty.

My brother, on the other hand, regularly says I look like something from a Tim Burton movie. I take this as a compliment but I'd never tell him that.

My dad actually gave his approval of my style of dress (it's pretty conservative) but threatened to kick me out of the house if I wear makeup. I never really planned to, and, since I believe that he's not making an idle threat, never will. I can see where he's coming from, anyway-- we actually think alike a lot of the time.

My mom will buy me stuff as long as it isn't obviously offensive. She bought me a spiked wrist cuff (I told her I'd wear it on Halloween-- I wasn't lying...) but that's about as far as she stretches in that sense.

Belive it or not..almost my entire family is gothic so we take family trips to get clothes and stuff like that.Its ptretty fun actully.

I never had problems with my Family when I started dressing in black at age 11. My mother started dressing all Goth like when I was around 14, I probably influenced her. When I didn't have a Job she never complained about buying me stuff, because we had the money, and she also bought stuff for her in the stores we went to. I suggest you get a job like everyone else, and once you do have a job use that money to buy your Accessories and Clothes.

I don't have problems with my parents anymore.... I moved out

but when I started dressing gothic.... they had a problem.
I remember one day I was lounging on the couch, my eyeliner fell outta my pocket onto the couch... my mom saw it and said something.... my step dad got all "YOur wearing make-up??" he grumbled "You going to wear a dress next?" Little did he know taht I wore a skirt the day before.
I've been really considerate of my parents when I lived at home, and I still am when I go home. I mean, sure It's alittle supressive of my beliefs and preferences... but I am under their roof and under their rules.

easy solutions for the clothing/make-up:
-do the superman - put on the make-up at school before class, or after you leave the house. I used to do my make-up one the school bus, or in the cafeteria before the bell rang. take it off after class, or before your parents get home.
- Baggy clothes are your friends - I don't like to admit it, but big hoodies and baggy jeans do you a great favor. wear your uber-gothy clothes undernieth hoodies and stuff.... My ass has been saved a few times by wearing jeans over my bondage pants.
- back packs are always a great storage solution.

My dad was so proud of me when I started wearing "normal" clothes. It's one of those... things. He viewed it as me working out of my depression, and I... well... I just did it because I felt like a change.

What helps me? Knowledge. The knowledge their old and weak and dieing soon, knowledge that in only 3 years I no longer have to see them, knowledge that in 3 years I can end all communication from them and start my life over the way I want. 3 years, and the clock is ticking. Thats how I deal with it. All you can do is wait. Theres a clocking ticking, and they cant stop it.

You Could pester your parents like I did! Tell them about the ancient civilization of the goths. I did mine in like 2 hours.........they dont talk to me anymore and i could have sworn they sent a priest after me. ;p
