Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

AFI's "love Like Winter" vs. Evanescence's "Lithium"
I've realized these 2 bands new (or recent) videos are eerily similar.
Has anyone seen the videos? And if so, notice the similarities?

I'd say AFI, since Amy Lee once said "I'm not a goth, I don't spend half a day putting on makeup" or something like that. Even so, AFI went from melodic punk to pop-punk with a poseur-look, so they're almost as bad.

Well the thing is, they used to be the best hardcore band EVER, for their first 2 or 3 albums.

evanesence has lost their creativity. and AFI has changed their music to some emo sounding shit. They both need to die.

Black Sails is iffy. They're a more melodic version of their earlier style there.
I also kind of count The Weight of Words, as recent as it is.

Oh deese are the best gawth bands eva oh fuck shit damn ass deff omg they both am so cool cuz i alwayz see dem on mtv at five in da monrign d00d
*SIGH*
What's next? Good Charlotte vs Simple Plan? Why not we do some actual goth music polls, Andrew Eldritch vs Robert Smith-who has the better excuses for the denial of the goth musique and whose is better, anyone notice the similarites? I'd have to say Eldritch because he's good at covering up genres with words like "modernism"
XD XD XD XD XD XD XD XD
and they're similar because...wait this is competition...sorry my darklings.

I don't know if I've seen them, but I think I have.
I rather abhor much more Evanescence's.
AFI's music, even though I don't like it, has a catchy tune which explains why they can still be so famous, and this song is no exception. Plus, I like the singer's style; it's quite glam. The one I can't stand is that guitar(bass?) player that fell into the stupid emo haircuts.
But on the other side, Evanescence...
It has betrayed me in a way I will never recover from.
I once read a whole book listening to only their CD of Fallen, and that became one of my favorite books of all time.
Then I decided to read the rest of the saga (four books in total) with just that one CD playing over and over, and now every time I listen to it I remember the part in the book that would most fir the song.
I love that! It brings me back memories.
But now Evanescence has gone from songs with nice imagery ("Look for me in the white forest hiding in a hollow tree") to songs about breaking up ("Call Me When You're Sober")
But I guess it was so obvious it would happen that I shouldn't be surprised.
When the founder of a band leaves, we can safely predict the decadence to come.

Evanescense ripped off My Chem Romance's "Helena" video with "Call Me When You're Sober", using the ballet of the dead thing. So I'd say they ripped off AFI too. Fuck all three bands to hell. >: P

My Chemical Romance was a sort of innovator by trying to do something artsy that ended up appealing to the mainstream.
Unfortunately, this has provoked too many wannabes (Panic! At the Disco's I Write Sins not Tragedies) and a new trend for cabaret things that has lowered the cultural quotient average of some good bands such as The Dresden Dolls.
Also, MCR now believes it can pull off anything and still be cool; just like the new half-military/half-parade look of them for their well-named Black Parade.

Blah.
Evanescence's new music sucks(both "fallen" and "the open door", and I completely lost respect for miss Lee for many, many reasons - BUT you cannot say that Ev themselves ripped off AFI with the videos because, well, neither Ev or AFI actually make their own videos. Very few bands do. And it was the same director guy for both Ev and AFI, so..
Yeah.

Fuck em. I never liked AFI. Ever.
Ev, I liked for a while. Their first album was kinda nice. But after Daredevil, I kinda abhorred those songs that were in the soundtrack. Their new album is pure fucking garbage. I really do not know what they were thinking.
But, I give credit where credit is due....
That song, "Listen to the Rain" is wonderful. It brought me to tears.

"Listen To The Rain" was one of the greatest things Amy Lee has ever written.
But next to "Give Unto Me", in my mind.
It's too bad that Amy decided to no longer make good music, and instead, crap...
-yes, I like Evanescence. So sue me.-

I think you're referring to the guitar player, Jade, and his haircut wasn't emo when he first got it. It's just a blonde mohawk which has grown out and never really been put up. Emo kids copying him made it recognisably 'emo'. But I don't really like Jade all that much anyway, he's a tad boring.
Obviously I prefer AFI to Evanescence. As a fan since their 'old days' I don't think I'll ever give up on them, even if their direction is a little towards the mainstream these days.
I listened to and enjoyed a few Evanescence songs a while back, but the little I've heard from the most recent album hasn't really appealed to me.
Having gone to youtube out of curiosity to check the videos out, I agree they're very similar. AFI's is better though, just because that song reminds me of some very good times in my life.

D00d I am you fanboi hear. Anyway, yeah, but doesn't that idea seemed ripped from a literary form or horror film in the first place? It's too original to be from just some shitty commericalized record company or music video director. :/ I wonder if perhaps they ressurected and kidnapped Edward Gorey and then forced him to give the idea away.

Yeah, you're right. Now that I think of it, that would add up seeing how MCR announced they thought goth was about 20's silent films.

I agree that The Open Door pretty much sucked, but Fallen had quite some good songs in it.

Fallen was pretty decent, but everything by Ev before those albums was a million times better...
There are even a couple songs I like out of TOD, I admit. Good Enough, Like You, and Your Star. Out of Fallen, Imaginary, Whisper, Hello, and maybe Haunted (the story Ben had for that song was rather interesting).
But I'll listen to the EPs and Origin over those albums any day.
I blame them having their first major album(Fallen) for the crappyness. Fallen was somewhat OK, and The Open Door pretty awful.
It's sad how popularity can ruin bands..

*Bows* Yes, Good punk music.
They we're pretty similar, the snow, underwater, the slow motion.
Either way, both of the songs are decent.
Evanescence's early stuff was much better as well. Mainly the stuff from their first two EP's.
Both the artists have seen better days.
