Yee-hah, kudos for Google! It is good to see someone stand up for privacy and freedom of information in this country, I am just sad it had to come from a corporate entity instead of within our own government........hmmm, food for thought?

The scary thing is which companies DO give up the info without telling anyone. I mean, all the telcos, all the credit check companies, and all major ISPs have admitted to giving up information recently. That alone should scare anyone.

The thing that really should freak people is thse discount cards the big stores give you for shopping there. Yes, they are tracking those as well. I could dig up an article on that where some lads bought some cold medicine at their local supermarket and then a few plastic buckets on their credit card at wal-mart and the DEA showed up at their house in the following days asking about it. It was on the news about 2 years ago, but that kinda stuff really bothers me.

This google thing is just the next step in the police state.

Of course if you want to piss 'em off all ye need to do is what we here in Ireland do. They have the same cards here. We just go to parties, throw them in a bowl, mix em up, and then hand them out again. Keeps em guessing when they see tampons and beard trimmers showing up on the same card I bet

depends on how close of a trim she wants.

But seriously, you've got a point there. Another thing is the types of questions they ask you to verify your id for online banking. What year you graduated? When were your parents married? Mothers' maiden name?
Seems innocent enough, until someone owants to find you or your family. then that becomes extremely valuable information. Somehow your pets name or highschool mascot aren't good enough anymore.

Supposedly they keep tabs on people that buy large amounts of things like cough syrup to crack down on meth making/dealing. You also have to ask for ID if someone's purchasing cold medications with sudaphedrine(sp?) because of all the media concerning kids getting a cheap high from it.

It's kinda sad that you can't sell cold medication without asking for someone's ID because people feel the need to abuse the shit.

In Ireland, notonly can we buy many medications over-the-counter that you need prescriptions for in the states, when you get like a medication that needs to be injected, they give you the needle, the bottle and are like 'good luck'. Small towne chemists though are usually nice enough to stick you if yer not used to givin' yerself a shot.

But once again, off topic there. I understand the whole meth problem and tracking, but finding out that the government is actually spending tax payers money and tracking everything you buy on yer credit card, yer club cards, and money on yer loans (as mentioned in another thread) makes ye wonder - what actual work are the doing? Remember the good old days when they actually sent out undercover officers to infiltrate groups and check to see if there is an actual threat there rather than sit in an office looking at random data numbers, and then sending in a swat team because X + Y = Z?
