The whole biofuel thing, right? Making fuel from corn and such.
Fuck yeah! I don't know how the rest of American environmentalists feel but in my university all of us are against biofuels. Especially because it caused the crisis in Mexico with the rice of the tortilla prices.
I think I made a thread similar to this about a year ago.

Yeah, well, that's just the argument of "it doesn't affect me so I shouldn't care." More than half of America's harvests aren't for human consumption so America doesn't see a huge impact.
To the rest of the world, however, the profits from turning primary foodstuff into biofuels is higher than the profits from selling it locally as the main product of staple foods. The price of the tortilla almost doubled in a little over a month, for instance. The food of the poor becomes the fuel for the rich, as they say.
Besides, we're talking about corn here; an organism; almost all carbon in composition. All of it is burned into the atmosphere as CO2.
So no. No 'meh.'

Labelling green fuels as bad for the planet damns *all* green fuels rather than just those made from cash-crops that have supplanted huge swathes of jungle and farmland.
There are plenty of greener fuels available than fossil-based and corn-based. Hell, why not start actually using some of the huge amount of organic waste we produce for methane based fuels? Not super-clean, but just involves re-using stuff we're throwing out instead of trashing the wilderness and food supplies. What about refining hydrogen-based fuels? Algae-based? Creating more efficient engines to use these non-fossil fuels and thus put out less waste product?
"Green" fuels do not cause more damage than fossil fuels. Corn-based ethanol causes more damage than fossil fuels, along certain measures of damage. (yes, on most pretty major measures, but still not absolutely more damage on every possible measurement)
