People for Change

I know it's been a long time since I have posted anything on this site. However I have not sat Idle during that length of time. I have been relocated to Wilkes Barre Pennsylvania due to forces beyond my control.
During my relocation I have wintnessed such great apathy among the citizens of the places in which I dwelt. I have decided to start a political movement known as "People For Change". This is not a political party nor does it have any political alignment. I am only trying to reinspire political participation among the people of America.
During the 1960's to the 1970's great political changes were made for the better of our society. Since that time a great feeling of helplessnes has fallen upon the intellect of man. The people of America no longer feel they can do anything to change their lives. Although they do want something to happen.
All I am trying to do is reinspire motivation amongst the people to help stand for themselves and what they believe in. Now I am not asking for money at all. I am only looking for support and effort.
Some might stand against me saying "I'm trying to over throw the government" or they might just state that it will never happen. To this I only reply that I am doing nothing more than standing for what I believe in. Individually however, one man cannot change the country, but together people could change the world.
Now here I ask "Do you belive in something? Are you willing to stand for it?"

Give me your feed back on what you think. Stand with me or against me. I don't care which personally, just do something.

The government needs a wake-up call, I say. As the saying goes, "Governments should be afraid of their people", and the current level of apathy in this country has made the government lazy in that fear.

Do people not see the world around them? Pakistan in chaos, Saudi Arabia corrupt, religion trying to take over America, the president having far more power than he was ever meant to, child soldiers, poverty, global warming, etc. And they can't bring themselves to care.

We need a powder keg and some matches. People in this country need to wake up and remember what empathy is, remember that we are supposed to care for our planet and for one another. I would love to have the chance to say what I think of this mess, and try to change it for the better.

That's cool. I'm in a college club that's basically what you want to do. Where do you live? I'm curious.
In any case, I would recommend you to start looking for local issues. Over here for example, we have big issues with foreclosures and an unreliable factory that wants to re-open.
If you have already gotten people to join you, see if there's someone with good connections in the music scene. Gigs and festivals always appeal to young people and they do care about issues but are not approachable if you look like an evangelist, and they become more motivated when they realize there's people that can back them up with their ideas.

People are too self-absorbed to think about the world outside of their little town. I think you have a good idea. I don't know how original it is, but that's probably a good thing. Considering that these little "movements" are going on everywhere, if they all eventually come together it will most likely make a big difference. Right onnn.

P.S. I live likeee 45 minutes south of Wilkes-Barre. Just saying. :]

Self-absorption when you don't think of anything outside of your immediate surroundings. There's nothing self-absorbed about caring only for your immediate community. That's how politics should be dealt with: on a local level. Any control broader than one community becomes impersonal and authoritarian.

If we stay separate we will make the difference. If we join together, we will collapse at best and become nothing but another excuse for an authoritarian elitist government at worst.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. I say "People of the world unite! Viva La Revolution!" I agree that people need to wake up. I woke up when I listened to Crass and really got things going. I now am very involved within the goings on in the world and change needs to happen now people.

Right now I am currently in Wilkes Barre mainly hanging at the Osterhout library.

Currently though my first step is to try to make an announcement at public square with enough people assembling to get the media to televise the ordeal. My speech is already written, all I need is to get about 20-30 people and a megaphone. WBRE which is stationed right by it should broadcast my message across the nation and hopefully rally others to follow.

Change can happen, but only if the people are willing.

Hey, tell me when you plan on doing it and maybe I'll make a guest-appearance. I could even bring a few people with me. It could be a short road-trip, if you will.

I'm trying to find a time when people are able to come. The only thing is no one can tell me a good time for them. It's as if the people in the area are trying to avoid it. I can't get enough people to organize at the same time either, to decide a time.

I hate the fact that no one wants to move unless the entire world moves first! It's starting to drive me crazy. I won't give up though. I'll keep trying.

Any recommendations/words of advice/phylisophical insight?

First of all, you can't expect to appear on TV when you barely started. Unless it's something of a big magnitude and you get many people to back you up; in which case, you could only organize and spread the world and then you yourself have to wait for the rest of the world to move.
