A measly 3 inches can shut down the UK
For all of you who live in the mighty north country (Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Michigan) AKA, the SNOW BELT (also in New York, other cold snowy places) This should make you chuckle.
Last week in the UK there must have been a major cold front because the year round rain that usually plagues the area turned to snow. It accumulated to a RECORD BREAKING 3 inches. Yeah. 3 measly inches of snow. People were abandoning their cars, shutting themselves in their homes, because of 3 inches - about the length of my THUMB - of snow.
Oh it's so scary. It's cold and fluffy and white and pretty and we must RUN AWAY!
Please. Now that I'm in college, class is never cancelled due to snow. Snow could be up to my eyeballs and I'd still have to go to class. we don't shut down, we bundle up and deal. There is a reason God (or whoever) put the whities like you Brits and us Wisconsinites up so far north. It's because our skin matches the damn snow. Now shut up and import a snow plow.

Well, in the terrible neighborhood I live in, there are always gangsters ****** girls when they can. Once they even had a dog with them and tried to kill me for my laptop, but after I fed it, it calmed down as I went over and punched one of their noses after they broke my charger (did it break? No, and they plan to "get their home-boys" on me). As for the snow, down here in Texas I'm happy if we get at least half an inch, because it is the only time my family actually comes together. Heh, hilarious about the UK, though.

Excuse for threadjacking? I believe it was you and 0mar who started the rapist thing, and I finished off with a snow related topic.

If people aren't equipped to deal appropriately with certain forms of weather, it's logical that such things occur.

Truth is my nation is just a bunch of wimps, no doubt about it, with schools closing for the day 'cause the playground was icy
Personally though I pride myself on being fine wearing just a t-shirt when it snows

Used to live in a small town (<1500 people) about 2 hours east of where I live now, and the stretch of highway in between used to have dozens of winter closures due to snow "storms." Now, it used to be that the storm that closed the highway was actually a genuine storm where one couldn't see a foot in front of your vehicle as it was coming down so hard. Now, for some reason that escapes my grasp, it doesn't matter if it snows just one flake. Heck, I swear they've closed the highway even on a *warning* of snow coming (ok, slight exaggeration but I wouldn't be surprised if it happens sooner or later).
And it's not that there's no snow plows to be had around the small towns in the area. It's either that: a) they're not out plowing/salting until the storm's already been here half-a-day to a day (not to mention that the storm's been televised for the last frikkin' week), or b) they're nowhere to be found and/or managed to get themselves stuck in the ditch along the road plowing the snow *sigh*.
