ok, I'm confused. Gother than thou?
Everyone says that it's more goth to deny that you're goth.
well, why can't we be proud of being gothic? Why do we have to deny it?

Self hatred?
Seriously, I ams what I ams and thats all that I ams. I am proud to be who I am and am comfortable in my own skin. The label applied is goth and that's all well and good but I think for the most part, at least from my vantage point, it's eschewing labels that people tend to be about, thus denying being "goth" as a label, makes one more goth...or something. Then again I could be full of shit, wouldn't be the first time .

I'm mindset Goth. I think like one and enjoy their company. I dress when I feel like putting forth the effort of making my blacks match. Otherwise I'm a "normie".
Darlin' what I think you're talking about is the disdain that's shown for the baby bats who just proclaim themsleves Goth without knowing what that encompasses.

That was in hard to answer if you are goth you might as well use it. I was thinking that goth is one of the most broad labels you can wear and wear it with pride. I mean goth subculture is one that has subcategories within it how many other subcultures can say that. It describes such a range of unique people to those who are truely goth. I didnt start using the title until recently i didnt really change aside from my introduction to goth music which i fell completely in love with. It is something i am proud of and if someone asks i wouldnt deny it. Thats kind of like a bat claiming to be a rabbit.

When I was extremely knew to the subculture though, I started calling myself a "proud baby bat" ..... until I read that it's normally used to be derogatory o.o
So I refer to myself as a kindergothen.... I think it sounds better too... is that any better?

It's cute.
When I was new here I put SO much effort in ensuring my posts were articulate.
The big thing about being a good baby goth is being polite, articulate and having good grammar. Trust me, with good grammar you will rock the world. By the way, you don't have to disdain anything you actually like because you are a goth, in my opinion, if you are aware, open, sarcastic, and have a taste for interesting music/clothing.
Luv, "When I was extremely new...."
Yes, I just put PINK (gasp) on a Goth website. I'm going to assume it's a typo.

Baby bat was new to me, kindergoth was the derogatory term I heard. But look at it this way, you have to start somewhere. It's usually at the bottom and not a bad thing. It's those that start then just stagnate and don't "get it" but expect everyone to acknowledge their somehow superior "uber gothness".
Take for example your typical mansonite. They listen to Marilyn Manson and somehow think that gives them goth, for lack of a better word "cred". The reality? Manson is more industrial metal with some goth elements, not really goth.
Of course it's also a history thing, there's history to the goth movement just like any movement. Now does that mean you need to know every single piece of gothdom to be "goth"? I would say no, mainly because I am still learning it from those who were around doing it when I was still in diapers. But I do learn and continue to learn and grow.
I don't expect people to bow down before me and proclaim my uber gothness (though I wouldn't mind the bowing down part), I just exist and live within the movement. Of course this could lead to a rant about being pigeon holed and how trying to impose a strict code or pattern one should follow is pure bullshit but there have to be some "standards".
Again I could be full of shit too

Polite, articulate, and good grammar all make sense. I'm like a grammar nazi at home. lol, but I'm not so strict about it on the net. I suppose I should be.
I hate pink. I've hated it for a while now. I don't exactly know why. >_>
And, yes, I think sarcasm is a way of life.

Haha. NEVER "lol". Except on an IM of some sort.
EDIT: I'm kidding. It's a thing about taste. "lol" is netspeak, and most members here go for English. As you are sarcastic, you will notice the jokes.

I saw this again somewhere, that apperently its "not goth" to call yourself one. I mean granted you dont want to stand up and scream "IM GOTH" for no reason that is just stupidity but it doesnt make sense to me.
"hey im not human you know, no seriously, im a squirel"
