It's a toss up between Nausea and Carcass.

Oh shit, but then it would have to count for Boyd Rice too! That makes it harder, but at least I know They Might Be Giants would be out. Probably end up picking Ariel Pink if put on the spot.

"The rest of my life" is a long time. Any band I choose to listen to I would get sick of after a few months.

Fact is that I CAN listen to one band for the rest of my life if I please.
But if you mean one band exclusively, Iron Maiden.

Carcass, hands down. Preferrably Reek of Putrefaction to Necroticism – Descanting the Insalubrious, but I'm not too against Heartwork and Swansong, they're just not as good.

Led Zeppelin. Or Suffocation. I always thought that Zeppellin was obviously far less epic than their cultists claim, but I listened to so much of them yesterday, and still wanted more....

It is not easy to make a choice. Maybe Evanescence, Nightwish or Angelika & Demons.

The first groups that came to mind were The Sisters of Mercy, Nachtmahr, Ghoultown, and the Coffinshakers, but I noticed a slight problem: most of the songs from each group sound pretty similar to every other song from that group. This is not to say that the songs are identical, but usually fall within a particular style.

Then, I remembered Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds. Sure, Cave's music isn't always Gothic, but it's almost always good. More importantly, he's pretty versatile and releases songs that fall into a wide variety of genres, so there's plenty of material to keep you interested.

Darkthrone

My friends came across Peaceville reissues of the Unholy Trinity cheap at a record store and I've been playing them non stop, trying to track down the whole backcatalog.

Before I answer this question, does anyone know who holds the record for most albums put out?

OK, now it's a tie between Godflesh, Sodom and Darkthrone.
