Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

What's a really good German song?
I have to do a project for International Business so I decided to do the cultural profile of Germany.
For the presentation of the project, I wanted to add a song in German. I know a few German bands like Blutengel, L'Ame Immortelle, Diary of Dreams, KMFDM, etc etc.
What would be a good song in German that is upbeat-ish... as in not a sad song? (preference of my group members -.- Don't worry all Industrial, Darkwave, gothic, etc. bands are perfectly fine, they don't have to know. hehe)

I like Melotron's "Wohin". I have no idea what it's about though.

Umm, does it strictly have to be a german band or just something sung in german? Because Laibach's "Tanz Mit Laibach" is upbeat, and simply marvelous...

"Folge mir ins Licht" is also a catchy Melotron song.

It has to be a German band, unfortunately.

Check out Lacrimosa, Subway to Sally, and Wolfsheim. (I'm not sure which of these are actually from Germany, but they all sing mostly in German.)

I'm fairly certain Lacrimosa is Swiss.
If you want something upbeat check out Corvus Corax! They sing in a lot of languages, but are originally East German and play a lot of medieval German folk songs.

"Wolfen (Das Tier In Mir)" by E Nomine.
"Mitternacht" by E Nomine is also good. Most of their songs are pretty rad, so if you're interested you can check them out. They've got a couple of other good songs, but those are the only ones I could name off the top of my head. Enjoy. n_n

I'd probably get flamed for suggesting .......Kraftwerk?
I like song from Inscape, they have a throaty sound in the vocals.

Das Ich
all of their stuff is great, check out "Gottes Tod" or "Destillat" to see if you like that stuff- that are probably their best known songs.

Wolfsheim has an array of good tracks that would fit the bill sure.

The VNV mix of "Destillat" is better than the original version, in my opinion.

Yes! Definitely Wolfsheim!
Some of my favorites:
"Heroin, she said"
"Ruby, (don't take your love to town)"
"Dream of you" (Schiller and Heppner)
"Touch"
"Sparrows and the Nightingales"
"Once in a Lifetime"
"(A Million) Lovesong"
E Nomine is great. "Das Omen" is fun.
EDIT- Uh.. And Beborn Beton, VNV Nation.
(brain dead now)

I'm probably too late, but I recommend Philip Boa & the Voodoo Club. They're catchy and fairly accessible, very 80's indie-ish, and hold their own against anything similar today:
