Uh, no. Actually the anime I love the most doesn't have to give tits and ass shots as fanservice to be "decent". Its not adult as in its not hentai, but its a nonsensical moe seinen anime geared towards adult men.
Er... name one adult man who likes Ah my goddess.. its totally for bi girls and teenabe boys.

And I really can't make you like a movie that you obviously don't.. however, I've never read the book, and I got the subtle longing that D had for Doris. People don't have to kiss or do anything sexual to have a deep longing for each other.

I only know one girl who watches it :P Although I do notice that people do turn a blind eye that something that obviously is seinen (thats what AMG is classified as, look it up). Hey, its a romance stories about girls! Has to be for girls, right? It reminds me of another anime called High School Girls, you'd think that maybe an anime about high school girls would be for a girl audience, but its total fodder for guys into young 2d girls and is probably worse than AMG for the level of ecchi. Yuri on the other hand is mostly geared towards women (with exceptions, but it started out that way at least), whereas over here a lot of so called lesbian porn is marketed towards men.

Being cold and standoffish and just fugly didn't make it seem like D particularly cared for Doris. But its D's thing, he doesn't exactly try to stay away from women, he's always falling in love, but like a Western hero when he's cleaned up the one horse town of vampires, he rides off into the sunset without consummating his love. Or she dies, that happens a lot. I'd recommend the manga to get up to date but sadly the artist was under a lot of pressure to have the women have ridiculous cleavage. Doris gets nekkid A LOT and I couldn't read Demon Deathchase (the one Bloodlust was based on) because of how she drew Leila.

Anyway, finishing watching Eden Of The East, its pretty good, I'd recommend it.

I like King of Thorn, is there an anime out there?
When it comes to cleavage in anime(and other features), it's really the western influence. Purist anime depicts girls with the frame of a Japanese girl--on the short, slender side, not TOO filled out. Rumiko Takahashi manages to make her girls beautiful and quite sexy without overdoing it at all, as compared to Bleach, where a 'C' outsizes the heads of small children.

It's very interesting to read the posts on this thread. I'm pleased to find "Vampire Hunter D" here ~ it would be my first recommendation on any anime list. Personally, I think that Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is incredible, but I still prefer the one from the 80's (I'm guilty of nostaligia though since it was the first anime I ever saw). Bloodlust's character designs are closer to Amano Yoshitaka's, and the animation quality is astounding ~ perhaps the best I've ever seen ~ but I don't like the characters as well (except for Meyer Link; he is really wonderful). D seemed more kind-hearted in the original movie to me. Besides his unwillingness to "use" Doris, he also shows compassion to her younger brother Dan several times and even towards the Aristocrat's daughter, Lamica. He was the ultimate tragic hero in the first movie in my opinion. There are so many things that I love about that movie...

I didn't realize that there were comics based upon the D series, but I've always wanted to read Kikuchi Hideyuki's original novels. Has anyone here read them?

*By the way, another hero who refuses to "use" his woman is Kibagami Jubei from Ninja Scroll. I find this concept to be extremely romantic; I'm surprised that it's so rare in movies.

Some of my very favourites beside the above-mentioned three are:

Robot Carnival
Baoh
Here is Greenwood
The Fist of the North Star (the movie version)
Wicked City*
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
Crying Freeman*
Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro
Laputa: Castle in the Sky

*WARNING - These are rather adult oriented

I've read the novels, they're alright, I think the problems I had with it was due to translation, seemed a bit jarring sometimes, you know? The manga is gorgeous but like I said....well, here's D and Doris meeting:

In the second one there's this one chick who always looks like she has small tits, until she's naked or just does something to indicate she's turned on. The artist makes it clear in the back of the first one that she really didn't have control over that, but its too bad.

I never said it was "for girls".... well bi girls are girls too.. so perhaps I did. I just said that It wasn't realy "adult". However obviously from what you say, its geared towards 18-30 guys. *shakes her head* Could have fooled me.

I'll have to check the manga out sometime. I'm rather fond of gratuitous cleavage and nekkidness in the art I tend to enjoy.

I'll have to check out Eden of the East some time.

I see what you mean, Saya; and it's too bad that the artist had to do that. Many female characters in manga/anime have absurd, almost laughable, body proportions. Other examples that come to my mind would include anything by the artist behind "Battle Arena Toshinden" and "Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer". Balance and restraint are essential elements of any kind of beauty. I can perfectly understand stylizing a character in such a way that makes her more interesting or emphasizes her more distinctive traits, but the "colossal chest thing" seems like an insult to female beauty to me. On the other hand, I find Amano Yoshitaka's female character designs to be extremely beautiful because of their grace, elegance, and femininity.

when I saw Amano's Zidane way back before I played IX I thought "great! A woman as a main character!" XD he is awesome though, I love his D artwork. Its such a shame about the manga, she drew D very well, staying true to Amano's vision of a beautiful youth but drew him in a very different style. If only tits weren't twice the size of the women's heads.

I'd bet that more than a few of you are fond of Kojima Ayami's artwork. She's amazing to me.

By the way, Saya; you could probably consider FFVI's Terra Branford as the main character of that game. She was a very nice character design as well.

Regarding Anime, I've been in a Shounen mood lately..

So I'll recommend Hunter x Hunter, most recent series I've watched.

Theirs the main series which is 62 episodes, and then 3 OVA's that follow it.

Main series and the first OVA got me hooked on it.

Same author who is responsible for Yu Yu Hakusho..so if you've seen that Anime, you may like Hunter x Hunter..personally, I found Hunter x Hunter way more enjoyable, though I'm a bit obsessed with Yu Yu Hakusho..so an Anime topping it is quite some feat.

Check it out.

"Record of Lodoss War". Huge recommendation. I haven't watched it in years but I still remember how amazing it is. Came out back in 1990. It's 2nd series "Chronicles of the Heroic Night" aren't quite as good, but you could give it a shot and see if you like it.

Definitely watch the original 13 episode series though. Amazing. Especially for any of you RPG fans.

My favorite is Serial Experiments Lain. Right now I'm watching Durarara and really like it. Otherwise.. hmm.

FLCL
Cowboy Bebop
Fruits Basket
Gantz
Boogiepop Phantom
Death Note

A few more. I'm not a huge anime freak but I enjoy the obscure ones. And I suppose Naruto is alright.

I am somewhat surprised to not see Code Geass mentioned yet. It's one of my top favorites. Another good one is Welcome to the NHK. It's about a social recluse trying to fix his life and finding out his friends are more messed up than him.

So, I don't think I'm going to be able to finish Gankutsuou, the ending was spoiled for me when it first came out and I didn't particularly care because hey, I read The Count Of Monte Cristo, what surprises could there be? But I can't finish it now because I know its going to break my heart. The anime does deviate from the plot, and it is Monte Cristo as a sci-fi, but holy shit does it suck you in and make you attached to the characters. I felt bad for them in the book but the anime is focused around the children of Villefort, Danglars and Mondego and how the Count's revenge affects them, and while you're cheering for the Count, god I feel so miserable. I also really liked how they portrayed Haydée, I didn`t care much for her in the book but she`s one of my favourites in the anime.

So I'd totally recommend it to anyone who really liked the book The Count Of Monte Cristo, its more loyal to major plot points than the movies I've seen, the animation is gorgeous and very well done. But crybabies like me, be warned.

My favorites are

Outlaw Star
Vandread
Quack Experimental Anime Excel Saga
Ouran High Host Club
Rounin Kenshin

I'm also watching Soul Eater at the moment, and it's not that bad.
I've found a lot of interesting animes by going to Hulu and typing in Funimation, or anime, they have some things you've never heard of and most of it is the original Japanese with subtitles. Every so often you'll find a shitty fan dub, but it'n rare.

And even though it's not Anime, I have to add Invader Zim to the list.

ALL HENTAI.

Hah. As per a previous post it's obvious I've never really given Anime a chance. The fanbase has creeped me out to the point I can't get into it. What I've seen that I've liked (this does not include back in the day when I watched Inuyasha and Dragon Ball Z) was FLCL, Cowboy Bebop, Howl's Moving Castle and Tokyo Godfathers. EDIT: All mentioned. Damn.

Boondocks aren't anime due to lack of alien beings and monsters and crazy shit, but it's the funniest in that style.

My husband and I are watching 'High School of the Dead' and it is perverted! We didn't realize that it was going to actually get hat perverted until we watched last night's episode. I doubt that Japanese women go around just playing with each others tits randomly.

I like Boondocks, too, but hate the heavy use of the n-word.
