Walking in platforms...
I recently bought a pair of lovely 4 1/2 inch platform boots. They are great looking, however--I cannot walk in them worth a shit. I look like a drunk girl/booble-head doll/bad tranny in them. I've never really worn heals, let alone 4 1/2 inch heels. I figured it would be easy since they're platforms...but no, not so much.
I know practice makes perfect, but any suggestions as to me finding my balance?
Thank you.

Practice practise practise! Wear them round the house for a few days before you venture outside with them.
Also, I've found that if you just try and walk as if you're not wearing platforms, you walk grand. Just pretend you're wearing normal boots!
Oh and if they're lifts (higher at the back than at the front), pretend you're walking on your tip toes ^^
It will take a while, but after a while you'll walk just as well in platforms as in normal shoes/boots.
What ones did you get anywho? ^_^

They would be considered lifts. Thank you!
They're by Demonia, and they look very similar to these (the heel is smaller): http://www.demonia.co.uk/shop.html

Yes, they are quite nice looking. =) I'm sure they'd be very fun in silver, as well.

I've always liked platforms to have a curve on the sole so that they rock enough to be able to walk in.
I don't know about actually walking in platforms since I never do it, but for heels, I know you're supposed to do a heel-toe heel-toe thing.

I've been wearing platforms as long as I can remember and yeah, practice makes perfect. And you may want to try going up and down stairs at home until you feel comfortable with that - going down especially.

I used to do all of my housework (vacuuming, dusting, laundry, etc.) in a pair of 7" spike heels...like stripper shoes. I NEVER wear the skinny spike heels out, but practicing in them made getting good at wearing regular chunky platforms a breeze.

Yeah, the housework thing is a great idea, I do it too (it makes me feel pretty while I'm cleaning so I don't hate what I'm going as much). You just have to get used to the feeling of moving around in them and it when they are a little worn in and a little more flexible in the ankle region movement is bit easier.

I've never had a problem with platforms.
I'll never understand heels, though.

I had an awful time walking in heels to start with, but one day I was randomly able to walk in 3 inch heels. I'm weird like that. I agree with the practice idea. You probably want to try all areas of your house, if you have carpet, tile, etc. in different areas of the house. Once your comfortable with that, go outside. Try the slope of a driveway (that is, if it is sloped), and start negotiating curbs and things. Once you've done that, and can manage stairs, you're pretty good. All the practicing will probably break them in a little as well, so they'll be more comfy

It's well easy, I have the swing 220s...lol.
They're very easy to walk in I find, just walk around and you'll get used to it !

I love plateforms. But I can't wear heels though. Just keep walking in them, it gets better!

I personally have never tried platforms. But I figured if I could take on walking through a store on 4-inch stilettos, I can take on just about anything. Those hurt like hell though, I could never wear anything more than about 3 1/2 without pain and agony, and even that's pushing it after trekking across the school everyday. I'd love some platform mary-janes though.

practice practice practice.. as with everything.
just wear them non stop around the house, daily. Sitting down, standing, walking, everything. Before long you'll be able to run after a taxi in them, while slightly drunk, looking stylish and not a problem in the world..

Just to add though, demonia are pretty great to run and walk in, for me at least. They're super comfortable even though they're completely synthetic. I used to have the Captor 207 as my every day shoe.. it lasted two years of non stop use until sole fell off haha. The Demonia buckle-up boot Slush 225 were my 'outing' type boots up until last year, and I could still run in them pretty easily if I needed to.

Platforms are just like normal shoes, just a bit taller. I didn't have any problems with my platform boots (holy hell how I miss those... ) - I ran 500 metres in mine as fast as I could (I'm a fast runner too when I can be arsed) for a bet - without injuries. But I must admit I just can't understand how you guys can't wear heels. Heels are easy to walk with if you know how to keep your balance. I'm dancing show dance in high heels... now _that_ is hard. A tip for you: get used to standing in them first. Just stand around in them while watching TV or something. If you have to walk, take'em off. When you feel secure about that, try swaying yourself out of balance with your arms. You might fall over at this point. When you can do so without falling, start walking slowly, one step at a time. When you can do this securely, start to pick up speed until you can use them and feel comfortable in them. Babysteps, I know, but it should work (for both heels and platforms).

Man, it's like walking in mini-stilts. After getting this down, you could put it on your resume for your application to the circus
