Some concerts in actual theater-like halls have assigned seats, often at solo musician concerts.
These are considered the "fine arts" though.

Yeah, plenty of places have seats and they aren't limited to fine arts.
But seats suck for going to see bands, at least you usually get a choice.

Most larger venues have assigned seating, just not in the pit. I can't think of a single venue that would have that kind of music as well as assigned seating that close to the stage. There is one in Norfolk where you can book tabled or a seat at the bar, which are pretty close to the stage but most of the floor is still open.
