This is NOT a joke or a hoax ...

just proof that truth IS stranger than fiction!

Hedy Lamarr was a famous Hollywood star and the first woman to appear naked on film (1933's "Ecstacy"). George Antheil was a piano player and composer. She was labelled "the most beautiful girl in the world" and he "the bad boy of music" yet way back in 1942 they took out a patent covering the vital radio technique that we now call spread spectrum.

Spread spectrum is a technology that was first developed to provide secret radio links - mostly for the military. The patent actually describes a novel method of controlling torpedoes, so this technology was first used in the development and use of these deadly underwater missiles in the first and second world wars.

More recently Spread Spectrum Technology has found many other uses. You are, in all probability, already using this stuff when you make a cordless phone call or when your PC is wirelessly connected to a network. And you will be using it more and more as the new generation of mobile phones roll into the market. One day your fridge might use it to order some replacement yogurt!

So how did a Hollywood starlet and a musician come to invent and patent this technology? Well, I am highly amused by contemplating that subject, and might just buy this book to find out.

I prefer to pronounce Xnguela as "arch-nem-e-sis" but that's beside the point.

The question is, are you eating that pie naked? If not, I'm not interested.

There's been a rash of child abduction attempts in Houston recently, particularly in the Fort Bend area. There is an ongoing story on the news about a missing 3 year old boy and the father that is a suspect and is currently being held on obstruction charges. They executed a search warrent at his house, and while the reporters aren't being told anything yet, the film showed police removing a broom from the residence as evidence. I know what that means.

Sometimes watching the news makes me so sick.

Lesson learned: You can still kick the crap outta someone without a lightsaber, but it looks cooler with one.

Me too, Ben.

All the child abuse/neglent in the news last year. Now all the abductions. It's just sickening.

I am currently watching "Interview With The Vampire".

I am heading to Houston pretty soon. I hope I don't get kidnapped.

Right-o DA! Wish I was going to houston though. It'd be better than being stuck here, and I know a ton o' people there.

Now I'm eating popcorn and listening to music and watching old reruns of CSI
