Unhappy Spam Bot Take Over

Well once again it appears the site is on auto pilot. Spambots have been amassing for weeks now. Every day getting worse. This morning it looks like they have quite literally flooded each forum and not an admin in sight to fix this. I reported many of these bots weeks ago when they first started posting in the forums.

The version of vBulletin running is severely out of date and none of the advanced spambot fighting features exist in this version. Unless the site admins take the time to upgrade the version or visit daily and scrub the site diligently we look to be doomed to live in a spam site.

It is true, moderators were out for a few days (not sure about weeks, but whatever.) Also, nobody likes the current version. What are they on, like beta 18 now? A bot farm managed to find a gap, we'll fix it up. Otherwise, not that big a deal.

Is it illegal to hunt down and destroy bot farms in rl?

It shouldn't be, but I think it is.

One thing I'd like to point out, just as a reminder or help for some of the newer folks, is that using the little 'report post' button really works best. It's the tiny box with an exclamation point in it on the bottom of the left hand profile portion of every post here (just next to where you see infraction cards.) The 'report posts' get much more attention than infractions do. I noticed that a handful of people gave 'jojksony' a ton of infractions, but nobody actually reported the posts, so they potentially stuck around a bit longer. Thanks for your help targeting the occasional bots regardless. Reporting them isn't perfect either, but it really does work best.

I know I reported at least one of jojksony's posts so if you didn't receive any at all then something is wrong.

Yeah, they're hitting other vBulletins too. Such a volume.

If you need an extra spam broom I'll help. (No other mod duties, do NOT want. Just offering a hand to scoop spam until you patch the site.)
