From what I learned from Summoner 2, a person hired to assassinate you will be your best friend forever in life. From what I learned from a certain movie about an assassin who fails, who loves boots and has a Spanish accent, you spare them.
From what I learned from The Princess Bride, when a man with a Spanish accent tries to kill your love, you spare him, he will save you both in the end.
