So, I think this guy has Downs Syndrome, or something. He can't honestly be a human with coherent thoughts, and I feel bad for the guy. Do we have a section for our poor mentally retarded fellows on this site?

I'm always disturbed when I see the special education students at my school because they are made to do the garbage runs. I have not once seen them in a classroom learning. They are always pushing around recycling bins and this really angers me. It's like the janitors think that they can get off easy by dumping half of their work on children who can't think well for themselves. I want it to stop. I recently read about the special education program in the school booklet and it stated (not in exact words) "We teach our special education students the basics of future careers."

I work with the mentally disabled and one of my clients acts and thinks like a pre-teen. She was a bit spoiled by her parents, but she IS mentally disabled and doesn't really know when her behaviour isn't what it's 'supposed' to be.

I didn't mean offense, I understand though, in hindsight, that it may have been offensive, however I do not see it as an insult to thsoe with the disease.

I personally am very close to my cousin Zain who suffers from mental retardation, and do not take offense when people use the word 'ratard' though personally I try to avoid it as much as possible.

Honestly, why take offense when none is meant? Meh, just the way I see it. If you do take offense at my using downs syndrome as a way to refer to Death's idiotic remarks, then by all means I'll stop, but remember that there's not neccessarily a reason to be offended. At least, not one I can see. If someone will point out a logical reason why one should take offense, then I will gladly accept it.

The mentally retarded are like everybody else - some are great, some are dicks.
From the posts I've read, digging on somebody's intelligence seems to be the insult of choice around here. But for me, character is way more important than intelligence. I'm bright, but not brilliant. If I look down on somebody less intelligent than I, am I not giving permission for more intelligent people to look down on me? And worse, am I not endorsing their opion?
