Sunglasses

Sunglasses, in my opinion, are probably one of the most important elements of any aspiring goth's aesthetic. There's no better way to announce to all around you that you have an unhealthy aversion to the sun/think you're spooky/enjoy alienating people/might be a vampire than with a sweet pair of shades!

I've discovered what I think are the sunglasses of my dreams, but sadly I have been unable to hunt down the perfect pair. If anyone can help, I'd be eternally grateful.

I'm looking for something along the lines of these; The glasses worn by Alucard in Hellsing:

http://www.azulcalcinha.com.br/gif/t0052%20alucard.jpg

or these; The glasses worn by Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics:

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...1.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Basically I'm looking for Round lensed, Metal rimmed glasses with side guards. I think this style is generally seen in "Glacier Glasses" used by ice climbers, but they might also be WWI pilot's glasses. So far these, the ones on the bottom of the following image are the best ones I've found:

https://www.viewit.com/Merchant2/gra...meglaciers.jpg

Also there are these, but they're not perfectly circular, not black lensed, and a bit modern looking for my taste (I want something that looks like it could be from the early 20th century, not a pair of Oakleys:

http://www.coastlineadventures.com/c...bo/drus_tn.gif

Still, they're not bad.

I'll probably end up buying the first pair, but they're a bit pricey and I'd like to see what else is out there before I pull the trigger. If anyone knows of similar glasses I will sell my soul for the info.

Thanks.

Hey, sweetheart. I have to pee, but I'll come read this in a second. I just wanted to mention that you should probably go to the introductions section and post an intro before anyone gets on your case about it.

I had a pair of Andrew Eldritch style sunglasses once, but one of my rough-houseing friends broke them. I don't know if they'd work for me though because I wear normal glasses so I'd need perscription sunglasses.

I want welding goggles with round cups. Aye. Metal or plastic, not leather, sideguards.

D'you mean John Lennon style shades like mine?
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/8135/lennonfs0.jpg

[edit] Ohh now I see what you mean, you want little flaps on the legs on each side. I'll see if I can find anything on the 'net.

(damn edit time limit)

What about these?
http://www.atomefabrik.com/pages_gog...es_glacier.htm

They're a lot chunkier than what you're looking for but you can see if the guy who makes them will make you a daintier pair.

Thanks c130, this guy's stuff looks great. I can't find any contact info on the site though, and I don't want to order anything until I'm sure he can do it. Do you know his e-mail? And nice Lennon glasses - the lens shape is right, but I want the cool glacier-glass side guards - maybe I could figure out how to make them myself...

You could see if you can find a bit of narrow black plastic drainpipe (you'd want it to be about the diameter of the frame of your sunglasses so the guards will curve nicely). Cut it roughly with a hacksaw then (carefully!!!) use a sharp knife to carve it into a kind of /\ shape. Make two. Then use strong glue to stick the guards onto the legs of your shades.

The guy's email address is gluondufou@atomefabrik.com - I'm sure he'll be happy to discuss your ideas with you.

Btw they're actual goggles, what he makes; with an elastic headband. I have a pair of the proper fullsize chunky goggles and they're absolutely awsome, but definitely not exactly sunglasses.

As much as I'd love to oblige, I would only be able to afford the cost of the post & packaging, lmfao.

Most AWSOME pair of steampunk goggles I've ever seen are these but they were a one-off and aren't for sale. XD

But here's some other ideas:
http://www.safetyglassesusa.com/3002969.html (almost identical to the photo you posted; dirt cheap too!)
http://www.magidglove.com/product.as...=206&pf_id=160 (same)
http://www.deutscheoptik.com/catalog...roducts_id=526
http://studiofoglio.com/Merchant2/me...de=Girl_Genius
http://ccgi.firewyre.force9.co.uk/brassgoggles/?p=5 (you could make your own)
http://www.eyeglasseswarehouse.com/1131-19.html (not really goggles, wierd and steampunky anyway... an accessory for a jacket?)

The maker of those goggles hinted they maybe sold as a kit, if there is enough interest.

The ones I've ordered from them came like this: pink background frames splattered with black and white. The lenses were real circuit board, one normal, the other painted UV blue.

Thanks c130, maybe now I can even afford a pair

I've looked at the ones from jadeddreads, but they're just not what I want...Too much colour and not functional enough for me. But each to his own, they are still great pieces
