OTEP always puts me in a good mood, something about a chick screaming about how terrible men are makes me happy.

Who cares? Everyone has their quirks.

As for me, when I get depressed, I hardly ever listen to music at all - I usually start making music myself, singing or playing the first instrument I get my hands on, to help myself express my feelings and to work them out in a positive way. Keeps me out of harms' way...

When I'm having a spell of mental illness I try and listen to angry punk rock, it really helps. If I'm feeling down I'll listen to a lot of ethergoth, which actually gets me down even more so I'll put on...I dunno, Spice Girls or some shit.

When the shit hits the fan and I want to try to adorn misery, it's "The Lovesong" by The Cure for me, even though it isn't exactly relevant... Maybe 17 seconds as well.

To wallow, it would probably be something with deep tunes, possibly something from Opeth.

To cheer up, Die Toten Hosen. What's cheers you up? Listening to a song about Ten little Deer and how they all died in miserable ways in such a cheerful manner you can't help but grin. Also, some of their stuff is good to wallow in as well, but they tell me to cheer the hell up or get over it.

Whenever I get depressed I usually put on my collection of music along the line of 'I'm gonna blow your fucking skull out!!!' and mash the crap out of my keyboard on UNREAL tournament until I feel better. Works most of the time. At other times though I listen to Delirium.

I don't listen to certain artists when I'm feeling down, I listen to specific songs.

One of these is the song Malibu by Hole. I have no idea whatsoever why, but it just makes me feel better. Also Heroes by Paralisis Permanente and Fallen Like the Sky by AFI cheer me up in strange ways.

When I feel like wallowing (usually for the sake of reflection) I'll listen to songs like Everything Dies by Type O Negative or almost anything by the Cure (especially Lost).

When I'm feeling really horribly desperately unhappy I choose to listen to no music at all.

To be depressed is something common for me, but when I become really really sad I need kreator - phobia, rammstein - mein hertz brennt or paradise lost - sun fading. These songs keeps me alive, there are others worst than me.

Joy Division depresses me, so if I want to stay depressed I listen to that. I do believe that I was playing that when my mum backed the car into a wall, either that or Misfits.

The Evanescence album "Fallen" ("Haunted", "Tourniquet", "Imaginary", "My Last Breath", "Hello", and "Taking Over Me"), "When I Am Queen" and "Strawberry Gashes" by Jack Off Jill, and "This is How I Disappear" by My Chemical Romance.

Whilst wallowing in my own misery, I tend to listen to a lot of Elliott Smith: his lyrics are, quite possibly, the saddest poetry I've ever heard. Take, for example, the beginning of the song, "No Name #5":

"Got bitten fingernails and a head full of the past
And everybody's gone at last
A sweet, sweet smile that's fading fast
Because everybody's gone at last"

As for others. Theatres Des Vampires, Some soundtracks from my favorite movies, and anything with vocals I can sing to.

I tend to try to be positive. Cruxshadows -Eye of the Storm- and -winterborn- is good to give one a sense of hope and strength to endure.

Also, Danse Society -Heaven is Waiting- is just beautiful and gives me a sense of hope as well.

I haven't wallowed in sorrow for quite a long time. I suppose -Eccentricity- by Magenta is a good pity party song. Oh and -The Weeping Song- by Nick Cave.

J.S. Bach works well on me , the french overture .
Also Kraftwerk or JM Jarre (I know, it sounds probably weird ...)

"The Weeping Song" kicks ass.

Ooooh Johnny Cash's version of Hurt. The video is very... Thoughtful.

And if you don't feel anything emotive then I'm sorry but you are dead inside.

SoM's First and Last and Always album. Does wonders for the feelings of "weary, stale, flat, and unprofitable" that accompany my depressions, perhaps because the lyrics mirror the ennui so closely.
