Literature Please come visit. People get upset, write poetry about it, and post it here. Sometimes we also talk about books.

Top Ten Non-Fiction Books

Like the other one, but with theory instead of fiction and books instead of authors.

The Rebel by Albert Camus
Manufacturing Consent by Noam Chomsky (EVERYONE should read this book)
Profit over People: Neoliberalism and Global Order by Noam Chomsky
Where Have All the Intellectuals Gone? Confronting 20th Century Philistinism by Frank Furedi
Anti-Intellectualism in American Life, by Richard Hoffstadter
Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Nietzsche (I know, I know, but it’s more a philosophical than literary work in my eyes so it stays.)
Beyond Good and Evil by Nietzsche
The Anti-Christ by Nietzsche
Madness and Civilization by Michel Foucault
Discipline and Punish by Michel Foucault
What is Literature? By Jean-Paul Sartre

Newton's Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica : My God what a breakthrough! This book has had a major impact on the entire world, resulting in everything from lasers and microwaves to television, cell phones and X-Rays. What a genius!

Asimov's The Universe : An incredible journey from flat earth to quasars that had a profound impact on my 12 year old mind when I read it.

Dr. Wayne Dyer's Your Erroneous Zones : This book singlehandedly freed me from Catholic ingrained guilt trips.

Alvin Toffler's Future Shock : Reading this book in the 70's gave me a glimpse into the future and helped me to prepare to take advantage of the opportunities that benefit me today.

The Consolations of Philosophy by Alain De Botton. An amazing and spellbound distillation of all the major philosophies and their application to daily living, probably the most influential book I have read second only to The Bible!

Basic Mathematics for Electronics by Nelson Cooke. This book launched my ealry career out of college into the private sector as an electronics technician. I was earning more than my friend's parents of the time. The book paid for itself tens of thousands of times over.

Move Ahead with Possibility Thinking by Robert H. Schuller
Although I have my reservations about the man himself, his book is highly motivating in terms of getting one up off their posterior and out the door to get things done.

Introduction to Psychology. I am at work now, and so don't have the author's name from my copy in my personal library, and the title is very generic so I cannot filter what google returns with any confidence, but this high school text book also had a large impact on me in terms of understanding my parents and sister, and their motivations, and subsequently helping me to mature a little. It is very well written with perspective on application to one's personal life.

Logic: The Science and Art of correct thinking.
Again, I don't have the book at my fingertips and so I am unable to give the specific reference, but this is a good introductory book into reasoning that to this day I still reference.

From Left to Right: Readings on the Socio-Political Spectrum by E. Herbert Robb
This book introduced me to the possibility of differing viewpoints, and more importantly, showed me that my (at the time) conservative opinions could be viewed as extreme by others. A mirror if you will pardon the metaphor, for one's social standing and position.

And many, many more, but that is all I have time to list for now.

Straw Dogs: Thoughts on Humans And Other Animals by John Grey

Rimbaud by Graham Robb

The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx

Anything by Soren Kierkegaard

The Blind Watchmaker by Richard Dawkins

The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins

I can't think of any more right now. Eh, Schopenhauer and Nietzsche and Sartre deserve a mention, I've just only ever read snippets of their work.
