OK:

2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emo_(slang)

Also, you might want to learn more about spelling and grammar before you venture further on gothic.net.

As for Katy Perry... no. Sorry.

My girlfriend's mum said that someone else (famous artist, can't remember the name) wrote it but never used it.

I hate Katy Perry.

Why?

Because, my co-worker insists that we listen to top 40. Top-40 includes, "I kissed a girl", by Katy Perry, off of her single, "I kissed a girl", and on her album, "One of the Boys".

I have listened to this song. (I am not shitting you), 192 times in 4 weeks.

I work 46 hours a week, over 6 days. That means I work 8 hours each day. I have heard the song at least four times during my 8 hour work day.

FUCK.
KATY.
PERRY.

Her first single was called, "Ur so gay". Ur so gay. UR SO GAY.

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? UR SO GAY, IS WHAT FUCKING AIM USERS TYPE WHEN THEY'RE EATING POP TARTS AND BEATING OFF TO FURRY PORN.

I like Katy Perry's I Kissed a Girl as a song, but am extremely disapointed in the video. I did enjoy Ur So Gay- the video, song, and remix (yes, the spelling choice does make my brain twitch).

After reading this thread, I investigated this woman and her music, and I must ask: has anyone else recognized that this woman is virulently, unabashedly homophobic and heterosexist? This goes beyond the use of the word 'gay' to mean 'disagreeable', she, or whoever writes her music, seems actively engaged in marginalizing the gay community and reducing its members to caricatures. Let's take a look at 'Ur So Gay' shall we?

"You don’t eat meat
And drive electrical cars
You’re so indie rock it’s almost an art
You need SPF 45 just to stay alive

You’re so gay and you don’t even like boys"

This establishes certain qualities as 'gay', as if homosexuals were more likely to demonstrate them than straight men, while simultaneously denouncing them as repugnant, and that among these qualities are concern for the environment and vegetarianism certainly doesn't make her seem less hateful. If this song were about any other minority, it would never have gotten airplay. Imagine

"You're sexually voracious
and sell marijuana
You wear baggy clothes to hide your guns
You need fried chicken just to say alive.
You're so black and you don't even have black skin!"

"I kissed a girl" is certainly less offensive, but is nevertheless sure to represent bisexuality is 'just experimental' and, subtly, as an illegitimate orientation. Again, shifting the subject to a different minority reveals the absurdity here. "I kissed a jew"?

I didn't know of the song 'Ur So Gay's existence until I read about it in an article denouncing Katy Perry as a homophobic bitchnipple. I've been spared actually hearing her music, but I'm going to guess it's... skull-stabbingly awful, perhaps?

I've taken the initiative to put every reason you're a moron in bold. Jesus fucking Christ, learn to fucking type.

People who type like this make me want to strangle them with their own intestines. It's really not hard to type "what" instead of "wut", it's one more letter, and that's a pretty small investment to make you not look like a cunt.

Also, Katy Perry is a corporate whore. When your brain develops beyond the intelligence of a rodent, you'll come to understand this. Maybe you'll even learn to type!

Now I KNEW I've heard a song much like this in the nineties. In fact when I first heard about this I thought it was going to be either a cover or people just really started to like the song again. Boy was I disappointed.

I really can't believe you enjoy this woman's music.
I mean, I'm a huge asshole with so few values and convictions that I could count them on my fingers, and still she disgusts me.

Let's analyze exactly why I hate Katy Perry.
First of all "I kissed a girl" is cloying even beyond how pop music normally is. Its overproduced, using too many effects so as to be bombastic. It sounds completely hollow and artificial, which seems ironically appropriate, but none the less I don't believe was intended. The density of the electronic effects doesn't let Katy's voice or any of the instruments breathe, so to speak, within the song. Its beat feels aggressive, much like a hip hop dance number.

Furthermore the lyrics irritate me. The song essentially is a paean to getting drunk and acting like an attention whore. Its not a celebration of LGBT culture, its about a woman exploiting controversy over LGBT culture to gain attention. I have to say, even as a straight male, I am offended by these lyrics. But worse yet, they aren't even well written. Also, it seems like she tried to look as vacant as possible on the cover of the single. What message does that send?

In regards to her appearance, what does it matter? Does it have any bearing on the quality of her music? Can we even call such beauty a virtue? Can an unattractive woman not be a talented musician?

I don't particularly like corporate whores. I have a bigger problem with corporate whores that haven't the faintest idea what they are doing. Katy Perry obviously thinks that she's writing funny and ironic "feminist" lyrics that are going to make her a millionaire. What she's really doing is destroying feminism--in fact, destroying females.

For example...

"Us girls we are so magical
Soft skin red lips so kissable
Hard to resist so touchable"
-I Kissed A Girl

How many times in your life do you actually come across a girl that is so radiantly beautiful and gorgeous-looking that she's totally irresistible? Not many. However, on TELEVISION and in MAGAZINES, it's a different matter. Skincare, make-up and perfume ads are full of impossibly beautiful women. They are not real, but that's how women are being portrayed to the mainstream. This makes women feel inadequate and generally awful about their appearance, and makes them buy more products in order to feel better about themselves and feel more desirable--therefore, they continue to be oppressed, even without being able to put their finger on exactly how. Katy Perry's song is just another addition to the entire vicious circle and the fact that she thinks she's so feminist and smart when she doesn't know what the fuck she is doing and how she is affecting the media with her posing and preening in her music videos, just aggravates me no end.
Actually, she'll probably be making hardly any money. She must be purely in it for the "art".
Holy shit.
