How can you sell out in metal? There's no anti-mainstream creed behind the genre. It's just a collection of (usually) talented musicians trying to get rich and famous playing music. It's not like punk where they were protesting something. For crying out loud the fore runners of the genre were Judas Priest and they've worked bigger venues than anyone.

This is how he sold out:

And yes, I understand they try to make money, but there's a limit to how much bitching they can do about it...

Napster stole Metallica's music and then sold it to the public without giving Metallica any of the profit.

Lars Ulrich complained.

Why the fuck wouldn't he?

I'll tell you what, you work hard for twenty years to make albums only to have some piss-fucks on the internet sell it without giving you a red cent and then call you a sellout when you complain.

Albert, shut up.

Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, and Iron Maiden were the forerunners of metal.

Iron Maiden isn't a Forerunner of Metal, it IS Metal.

Seeing how their first album was all about killing people and vampires, I didn't get an emo feeling from it at all, just an attempt at being goffik.

Some of those bands are probably actually metal, just different types - like subgenres. But not METAL metal, if you get what I mean.

The music was emo, though. The singing, instruments, etc. And I've read that "Vampires Will Never Hurt You" was symbolic.

First you make an ass-hat claim and then you agree when someone proves you wrong?

Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath aren't in the same genre of Metal, though. Iron Maiden are NWOBHM and Black Sabbath are just Heavy Metal.

I find with Emo though by listening to it you can tell that it derived from punk, but MCR at that time you could tell that it was a popish gothic rock attempt. His singing is pretty standard with pop punk, or what was classified pop punk at the time. And did you see the album art, and where they would normally have the warning not to rip the cd and distribute it? They had "if you do Gerard Way will come to your door and suck your blood."

However I haven't listened to anything by them after, so I don't really know what they sound like now.
