Margaret Thatcher.
The Right Honourable Margaret Thatcher was the first female prime minister of the United Kingdom. I couldn't even begin to list all her achievements here so I'll just ask the question: what are your views on her?
Contrary to popular belief, I believe her to be an extraordinarily inspirational woman.

She was the first woman PM of the UK, is credited with revitalizing the British economy, was a hawk on foreign policy issues and staunchly allied with President Reagan, didn't like gays, and was ousted because of an unpopular poll tax. And that's about all that I know about her.
Care to expand upon why you think she's so inspirational? Because from your post I gather that you know about as much or less than I do about her.

Achievements?
Like "during my REIGN poverty rates have never been higher!"
Is that an achievement?

She was a great source of comedy for Monty Python's Flying Circus. And Rik from the Young Ones had some great stuff to say about her.
That's all I got.

Meh, Auntie Helen beats her soundly, if you wished to compare them.

Thatcher is a cunt. She is hated more than hitler here in Ireland. I could list off dozens of atrocities she herself is personally responsible for, but won't waste my putting all of them here.
But her advocating a 'Cromwell solution' to the troubles in Ireland is a good start. For those who don't know Cromwell made Catholicism illegal and killed all persons who claimed to be Catholic in Ireland. Thatcher thought this was brilliant and wanted to do it again in the 80's and said so publicly. She also started the 'shoot on site' policy, in which all Irish who were suspected of being anti-british were shot and killed - no trial - just shot and killed whenever the police felt it appropriate. She let the hunger strikers starve. She made public appearances and said that the Irish should all starve, and was happy to see them die.
I could go on for pages about what she did to the Irish alone, never mind the other nations her imperialism ravaged under her rule.
Then there is what she did to her own people - took free milk away from school students, use the government to break up unions in the UK, removed child benefits for poor children who need them most, and the list goes on.
There is a special spot in hell for her.

Well I THOUGHT her to be a strong woman and a feminist Icon, storming the house of commons and single-handedly saving the British economy.
But I didn't know she was such a big meanyface :/.
My views have changed now.

If you want your feminist icons to have the blood of a few hundred, if not thousand people on their hands, then sure, Thatcher's great.
Also an honest question, since I was probably too mean before.... Did you look into Thatcher at all on your own? If you're gonna call someone inspirational, it's advisable to know a good amount about them first.
And she didn't really save the British economy. Running it into the ground would be a more accurate term.

Thatcher rode the economic cycle. She took over from Callaghan who took the brunt of a particularly brutal economic downturn (and granted didn't work with it particularly well), then when things FINALLY started looking up during her reign which was towards the end, she was credited with it when really, the economy does that by itself. A lot. Thatcher fucked things up if anything, soaring poverty rates.

If you want feminist icons, I suggest you look up some of the brave women referenced by Penny Red- http://pennyred.blogspot.com
Hint: Penny Red is a socialist feminist and has nothing but distaste for Thatcher and what she did to Britain.

*facepalm*
You present an opinion (without nothing to back it up), then pull a full 180 because a bunch of people said otherwise.
It would behoove you to discover more about people you're interested in before trying to start a discussion about them. You could start by reading a book.

Where as I sort of agree with you about the need to read, this is the internet. What better way to educate than to ask a question or two? Sure it could have been phrased better, but it still accomplished its intended purpose.
Besides, any chance to publicly berate thatcher in a thread gives me goosebumps. I dislike her THAT much.
So thanks for that!
Also, for those interested, check out these shirts now available...

Mrs Thatcher
I think you should start reading up on her. There are reasons to dislike her but they are not explained here. Mrs Thatcher has the ability to send grown men and women into such fits of anger that they can't think straight.
Cptsternn, what you typed is at best a gross exaggeration and at worst, just plain rubbish. She wanted to kill all the catholics??? She wanted all Irish people to starve??? If you are going to waste time hating someone, hate them for real reasons.
And Mrs Thatcher was freely elected three times so she must have done something right. Maybe ask someone from Eastern Europe what there views of her are.
And as for making money out of selling 'I Still Hate Thatcher' T-shirts, now theres' irony

If they do actually grant Thatcher a state funeral, I'm going to stop being a British citizen.
