Pollution
Well, my catalytic converter is out, and I don't know how much it costs to fix, but I probably can't afford it so I'm going to just remove it completely and just replace it with a pipe. I might be pumping a bunch of carcinogens into the air but at least my car will work.
Discuss.

It would actually cost a bit to replace the converter. They are worth a lot just because of the materials used to make them. My uncle had his stolen last year, some one took a sawzall and cut it right out. They are now one of the most popular items to jack off a vehicle. And of course yes you are putting more harmful chemicals out into the atmosphere, but if you aren't going to make a serious effort to cut back on pollution, why bother. Hell, they're even saying that recycling is harmful to the planet now. But if you are feeling guilty, there's always picking up trash, community service, etc.

If that is your only means of transportation to work, then do it.
Ha! as if the automobile were clean even with the catalytic converter!

Is it even legal not to have one?
If you're in a state that requires smog checks for vehicle registration, you're certainly not going to pass.

Go to the breakers yard, ask the person for a cat for your car, if not a cat, get the whole exhaust. Cheap as fuck.
